AIDER Program

NSW RFS AIDER (Assist Infirm Disabled and Elderly Residents) PROGRAM is a free one-off service that is designed to assist our most at-risk community members with reduction of bush fire hazards on their property.

Step 1: assessor from RFS will come out, have a look at the works that need to be done around your property, assess the level of works and equipment required to complete them, obtain all environmental approvals from Council and RFS (if required).

Step 2: a team of volunteers will come to your home and do the works that will transform your home from an undefendable to defendable space, including works like:

  • clearing gutters
  • thinning vegetation around the home
  • removing leaf and tree debris
  • trimming branches from close to the home
  • mowing or slashing long grass.

Step 3: once your home is set up to be a defendable space by the AIDER team, you’ll be able to maintain this much more manageable space for a fraction of the cost that it would have costed before this free service.

If you don’t fall under the AIDER demographic but would like some assistance with assessing risk on your property, you can always reach out to your local brigade who can provide advice on how you can make your home a more defendable space.
