Emergency Response and Recovery

Fire emergency response

Natural hazards have the potential to significantly impact Hornsby LGA and its communities. These include floods, bush fires, heat waves and severe storms, amongst other natural hazards and emergencies.

Hornsby Shire Council is committed to supporting and partnering with emergency services and the community in the management of emergencies, disasters and catastrophic disasters.

These obligations are outlined in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Local Disaster Plan (DISPLAN) prepared in accordance with the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act (SERM Act), which guides Council’s Emergency Management Framework.

The objectives of Hornsby Shire Council’s Emergency Management Framework are to:

  • provide emergency management arrangements aligned to national and state disaster resilience strategies, frameworks and policy
  • define the roles and responsibilities in mitigation, preparation, response and recovery phases of emergency management
  • set out the control, co-ordination and liaison arrangements at the local level
  • detail arrangements for activating and coordinating resources.

Emergency and disaster resilience is a shared responsibility. Find out more if you're ready for an emergency?
