Nirimba Avenue Reserve

The Catchment Remediation Program initiated works in conjunction with the Parks, Trees and Recreation Branch to remediate the creekline at Nirimba Avenue Reserve. The creekline works were completed in November and landscaping additions were finalised in February by the Parks Team.

The project re-established the natural attributes of the watercourse (i.e., plunge pools, settling pools etc.) and stabilised the rock lined riparian areas. The CRR works also included the construction of a biofiltration basin and plantings that will provide pollutant removal by supporting microbial processes promoting evapotranspiration that utilise nutrients amongst other pollutants.

Overlooking the biofiltration basin a circular deck has been installed which provides a moment to pause and appreciate the watercourse within the comfort of a weeping tree overhead. This deck conceals infrastructure that had previously been exposed.

The Nirimba Avenue street frontage has been upgraded with boundary plantings and sandstone bollards that define the entry. A new entry sign and central path welcome you into the reserve. A circular landing nearby the deck provides an opportunity to rest on sandstone seating with shade from new Turpentine plantings. This landing is highlighted with a caramel pigment drawing off the tones in the nearby Angophora tree and veins in the sandstone seating.
