Proposed Galston Major Drainage Upgrade
Council is currently carrying out further site investigations and developing detailed design plans and costings for a major stormwater drainage upgrade in Galston, particularly in the areas around Glen Street, The Knoll, Gardiner Road and The Glade. Council is aware of previous flooding events in these areas in recent years, and it is noted the area has been listed in Hornsby Council’s Draft Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan (FRMSP). The aim of the proposed work is to improve drainage and flooding in the area, and shall include doubling the capacity of the existing stormwater pipes between Gardiner Road and creek outlet off Glen Street. It is also necessary to upgrade and formalise existing secondary overland flow paths as part of the works.
It is anticipated the design phase will be completed by July 2025, and construction works started during the 2025/26 financial year. Due to the anticipated high construction cost, and Council’s limited annual funds, the construction works will need to be staged over 2 or 3 years. Directly affected residents will continue to be consulted directly during the design phase.
