Brooklyn set for cycling and walking path network thanks to active transport funding

Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock said the area has been provided $7.62 million to strengthen active transport in the community, making it easier for people to enjoy Brooklyn’s many scenic landmarks without getting in the car.

“We’re excited that this grant will allow visitors to the beautiful Brooklyn to spend the day walking or cycling around it on these new shared paths, enjoying its natural beauty and supporting local businesses in the picturesque, waterside community. We thank the Hon Matt Kean, Member for Hornsby for his support in helping us secure this funding which will benefit the people of Hornsby Shire,” said Mayor Ruddock

The funding will be used for the construction of a shared pedestrian and cycle path along Brooklyn Road between 87 Brooklyn Road and Baden Powell Ave, including road reconstruction and a cycle bridge near the fire station ($3.8 million), and the continuation of the boardwalk and shared path connecting Brooklyn Road with Kangaroo Point ($3.82 million). There will be approximately three kilometres of shared path between Baden Powell Avenue and Kangaroo Point when these projects are complete.

Get NSW Active provides funding for local projects that encourage vibrant centres and liveable neighbourhoods through the creation of street environments that prioritise walking and cycling.

“Not only does active transport give people options on how they want to get around, but it really lifts community spirit to see families, groups and individuals walking and cycling around. Members of the community will soon see these projects come to life and reap the very real benefits,” Matt Kean, Member for Hornsby said.

The projects, fully funded by the grants, will commence May 2023 with expected completion late 2023.
