A bumper day of free family fun across Hornsby Shire to mark Australia Day 2025

This year, Hornsby Shire Council is inviting residents to a jammed-packed day of family fun as it presents a range of FREE family-friendly activities across the Shire on Australia Day (26 January). From multicultural music and inflatable pool fun to native animals and a family movie, there’s something for everyone. The Hornsby Shire program of Australia Day activities includes:

  • BBQ Breakfast
    8am – 10am, Hornsby Park, Peats Ferry Road

Start your Australia Day activities with a free sausage sizzle and coffee at Hornsby Park.

  • Free entry to Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre

8am – 2.30pm

Cool off with a dip at the Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre and have fun on our giant inflatables from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

  • Australia Day Concert
    11.30am – 2.30pm, Hornsby Park, Peats Ferry Road

Bring your picnic rug and enjoy a multicultural concert in Hornsby Park featuring:

Gawura Cultural Immersions - a dance company of First Nations performers who perform all their songs in Dharug Dalang (language)

The Funky Monkeys - local legends who jam out hits for all generations
Lily Guerrero & Band - spicing things up with their Latin flavour and big sound.

  • Free tickets to Koala Park Sydney, Thornleigh

Arrival between 10am – 12pm

Bring your family and friends to come face to face with our Australian native wildlife. Maximum 300 people. Bookings essential at hornsby.nsw.gov.au/australiaday

  • Free tickets to Paddington in Peru at Hornsby Event Cinemas
    Session time 2pm

Chill out at the movies. Paddington in Peru brings Paddington's story to Peru as he returns to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. Includes a small popcorn and a drink.

Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell says he is excited to provide people of all ages something to enjoy as Hornsby Shire comes together for a day on which “we celebrate as well as make time to reflect and pay our respect”.

“We’re very proud of the great diversity of cultures and backgrounds that call Hornsby Shire home and Australia Day is the perfect day to celebrate our unique community,” said Mayor Waddell.

“I’m very much looking forward to getting out and about across the Shire to meet our residents as we present fun experiences for all to enjoy.”
